She // Project 365 // Day 78

Am I allowed to look at her like that?
Could it be wrong
When she's just so nice to look at?

One of the great things I noticed at the dodie concert was what a safe space it was for LGBTQ+ youth to be 100% authentically themselves without fear of judgement. Not having to be self conscious of who they are. It was really empowering to see an audience that was just such an  accepting space.

From the girl who handed out hearts in the queue to this glorious moment pictured during she. It was all really lovely.

Sick of Losing Soul Mates // Project 365 // Day 77

We will grow old as friends,
I've promised that before so what's one more
In our grey-haired circle, waiting for the end?
Time and hearts will wear us thin
So which path will you take, 'cause we both know a break
Does exactly what it says on the tin

#MusicMonday: You - dodie (EP)

I've been lacking on the blogging front recently. And recently I've been quite good at making sure that I have at least got a music Monday to send out into the internet and vanish in amongst the mass.

dodie clark released her new EP on Friday. And after a hectic morning I finally got a moment to listen to it. " 6/10" which has been a favourite of mine for a while was available in a pre-sale so has been getting a lot of listen.  Its just the kind of song that you can really relate to which is something about dodie's song collection there are so many great relatable lyrics which really speak to her fan base.

"In the middle" starts the album on an entirely more upbeat mood that her previous EP the 2016 release "Intertwined".  As a whole this album is livelier the beat more uptempo the lyrics don't lose there depth or meaning and remain as relevant and brilliant.

I was really excited to see some of the songs on this album. "Would you be so kind" has been a firm favourite of mine since it was uploaded on her channel. Be warned it is incredibly catchy and you will find your self humming or singing it days after you've listened to it.

There's not a bad song on the EP, the only one I haven't mentioned yet is "Secret for the mad" which is the slowest song, catering to the mood of the song, but such an important and vital song. dodie who is open online about her struggles with mental health, and a mixed fan base many of whom have there own struggles, this song acts as a great way to describe the struggle and that "it will all make sense again"

Go listen, download and love.

#MusicMonday: Intertwined [EP] - Dodie Clark

It took me a couple of days after the release of this EP to sit down and find time to listen to it. The week had been busy and stressful and when I met my friend on the bus I was told I MUST listen to it cause it was so good. Which is how I found myself at 1am - after going out to dinner with friends -downloading the 5 tracks for a listen.

Intertwined starts slow, soft. Its gentle you can feel the words.  You don’t get the darkness of lyrics such as “Can you drink all my thoughts? Cause I can’t stand them” on first listen.  It takes a turn or two for the words to seep in and meaning to take place.  It changes the song.  Beautiful as though it is.  Its a different kind of love song.

Sickly sweetness for 50 seconds in the form of “I have a hole in my Tooth” changes the tone and pace for “Absolutely smitten” to follow on from. A brilliantly upbeat optimistic first moments of love feel.

“Life Lesson” is short and brilliant. and should be repeated daily until its your life mantra.

Weirdly “Sick of Losing Soulmates” is the only song of the EP that I have previously heard. (I know HOW?!?!) And I’ve always found it beautiful. but the little things that have been added somehow make it more heartbreaking. The echos. The lifts and falls.

I was not ready for “When” it hit me in the feels. After listening to the song twice I mailed my friend (the one from the bus) and simply said "When" has broken me. It did. Its beautiful. It’s a song where the lyrics feel as each word was written with me in mind, and I’m sure so many people will finish listening to it and have related. Its heartbreaking and beautiful (and everything hurts) And because its live you can almost hear the pain in the line “I’m waiting to live, and waiting to love. It’ll be over, and I’ll still be asking when.”

So go and listen to this little beauty. And I’m begging you to actually listen. Don’t background music this whilst you go about other stuff, take 15 minutes and just soak your soul in the music and lyrics.

#Music Monday - The Chain - Hazel Hayes w/Dodie Clark [Ingrid Michaelson Cover]

I don't know if you understand how much you need to hear this, how easily your ears will get addicted to the rhythm of the keyboard and the harmonising of there voices. How the hums drag you in and keep you for the entirety of the song.  How comforting Hazel Hayes voice is.

Their version is first introduced to the world in Hazel Hayes brilliant series "Time of the Month" which documents her life, at 4mins 3secs of February's "TOTM" as Hazel packs up her apartment to move into a new abode with Dodie Clark, who plays keyboard and harmonises on the track, we are greeted with this brilliantly placed song.

A beautiful cover of Ingrid Michelson's song of which I've listened to far to much (both versions) and definitely did deserve its own video, separate from "TOTM" which is equally visually appealing and acoustically stunning.

So excuse me whilst this becomes my go to song for the week, I'm obsessed with it.
