Movie Review: Maleficent

So I went to see maleficent and here's what I thought.

Angelina Jolie was literally the best casting choice the film could of made she was flawless. All her acting choices worked only to enhance the experience. Her facial expressions were so on point. Make up and costume on her flowed to change with the character, but never seemed out of place at any point. She also had the best mix of humour, vulnerability and I am a fierce fairy don't fucking mess with me.

Elle Fanning expelled the right amount of energy and naïveté for Aurora.

I wasn't incredibly impressed with the choice of Sharlto Copley for King Stefan and instead thing Robert Carlyle may have been a better fit for this role.

Sam Riley as Diaval was incredible and I loved that they humanised the raven character. He was so well played. I began wanting him and Aurora to get together as he genuinely cared for her so much and as much as I also didn't want that because this is my favourite fairy tale from my childhood and it seems wrong that she wouldn't get together with prince Phillip. But  in the end I am glad he stayed with Maleficent they made a good team.

Imelda Staunton as Knotgrass, Juno Temple as Thistlewit and Lesley Manville as Flittle were all good choices they managed to embody the characters in the little screen time there characters had. And though vital to the story as they are the ones I trusted with auroras care until she's 16 and 1 day they seemed a little redundant in this film at times. And there scenes felt repetitive.

The cinematography in this film was stunning and any scene involving Maleficent never failed to be visually enchanting. I went to see this film in 3d something I rarely do as 3d does not excite me and did it enhance the movie going experience, I don't know. But the special effects used to make this world would have been astounding in either I believe as it was done to a great standard.

Maleficent's back story made her actions understandable. She had been wronged and acted rash hurting someone she would come to love thinking she was hurting someone who had fooled her into loving him. But the real villain of the story was King Stefan who had know long hurt someone he was supposed to care about out of greed.

The movie did have bad moments in time the script was lacking. Several scenes that heavily involved extras were a little hard to watch. Sharlto Copley's accent was cringe worthy. But all together a much better effort than that of Snow White and the Huntsman.

And once again Disney has restored my faith in them with continuing on from Frozen that true love does not have to come in the form of romance and certainly not from the "true love" of a man Aurora had only had a brief meeting with before the curse came true. And instead true love was someone who had watched over and cared for her whole life.

365 days

It's been a year since the last day of high school. It feels like it was both just yesterday and an entire different lifetime ago we were traipsing up and down the halls from class to class.

I didn't attend the last day of school, instead I went to my college interview. I proceeded to get into that course and am currently a month away from finishing first year. Time genuinely flys so fast and I feel like I say that a lot each time I post. Because time slips away and suddenly I'm months away from the last time I posted and it feels like no time has passed at all. I can't believe we are nearly half way though 2014.

I have to say that the last 365 days have had some of the highlights of my life so far. I turned 18, started college filmed a 3min short and a music video, got a tattoo,  met one of my favourite bands Patent Pending, have been to numerous gigs, and had amazing times with my friends.

...10 months later

I keep thinking to myself awk I will update the blog tonight… yeah that’s been 10 months of thinking that, but to be honest not much has been happening… and time has been flying. Anyway I FINALLY! finished high school and was left in a limbo area of education as I had no clue what happened next. When my exam results came in I was upset and further confused about the future… though they weren’t exceptionally bad… I hadn’t quite met my conditions for my course at college. So I went to another college to enrol in night school to get a better grade on my higher English… after waiting in a THREE HOUR queue and getting in to the course I had a missed call and a voicemail to tell me that I had been accepted on to the original course of TV Production.  Was just a palava really. But now I’m here and I am enjoying it. And that two-to-three weeks of just not knowing what to do and nothing going right is a distant memory.

The rest of the year has really just been filled with going out with friends, studying and work with the occasional concert inbetween.  AND I TURNED 18 WOOP!!!!.... so I’ve found myself with very little to write about… and very little time to write.

So Here's a little glimpse of my year... in pictures

A New Year...

1 Year
12 Months
365 days
525,600 minutes

HOW DO YOU MEASURE A YEAR?

Now before I break out into “Seasons of Love” from rent and attempt to measure a year in sunsets, speeding tickets and a whole host of other things that I do not believe can measure a year I think its time to wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! We have officially entered 2013 and we are venturing into a brand new year. Many believe that a new year equals a new start whilst it probably is the best time to put your head down and make all the changes that your heart desires and make resolutions it is maybe a little pointless as in a way you are setting yourself up to fail… why do I say that? Well come back to me at the end of January or next year when you are making the resolutions again.

So 2012 started on a low for me as I was let go from my job and my last shift was on the 2nd of January but all is good as they phoned me up at the end of February and I have been there ever since and was officially made permanent at the end of September. The world of work and me have been getting along quite well although it does often prevent me from having a life…. We can’t have it all can we… well not with school, homework, studying and work.  (And in other news 2012 was the year I started my own business for a year check out The Cold Infinity a licensed business in the UK until July 2013)

But 2012 has proved to me that at any moment you can make a change and start again. That change only happens when you make them happen. Though sometimes things are out of your control you have to roll with changes that life brings, stand your ground when you need to and don’t let people walk all over you. The last few years I have learnt that the hard way, but now I am comfortable enough with myself that I believe I now know when to pick my battles and have only one rule for 2013 not to fuss over the little stuff.

So here’s to 2013 all 31,536,000 seconds of it and measuring the year in friendships, moments, laughter and of course in the changes that happen.

... and breath

Where oh where has the time gone. No seriously what happened I’m sure it was July yesterday…

So school started back on the 15th of August and time has been ever fleeting, I actually just cannot believe I am over a month into my last year at high school the summer holidays just seemed to swish by without a trace of an actually summer and in an instant there I was back in my uniform heading down the corridor to class, everything has just gone so fast so far. I feel like I’m in one of those don’t blink situations, because the minute you blink you miss everything.

On top of that I am becoming quite a skilled jugular not with balls, but with life, having to manage work, school, driving lessons, homework, studying and an attempt at a social life in-between. So far I have been able to organise my time well (free periods help a lot) But I miss “me” time, and tonight is the first time in a while where I have been able to sit down for an hour or two and just not worry about what I have to do next, although I did choose to spend this free time researching for a new project. Life has become incredibly demanding.

So in this incredibly demanding life of mine I have decided to go forth and embark on a new adventure, wise idea, it is an entrepreneur competition where you get to make your own company and sell a product and hopefully in the end make a profit, the project requires you to sell share, market your product and in the end write a ten page report and give a presentation. Sounds time consuming, I know. But I’m also incredibly eager to work with my friends on this, have fun and at the same time take this seriously, if it is even possible to have both words in the one sentence.

So even though time is slowly slipping away, and most days my brain isn’t even functioning properly, due to an overload of activities, and even though I always feel tired and even though I don’t even get a rest on the weekends life right now is good. It’s busy and it’s tiresome but I wouldn’t change it. And when it gets too much and I feel swamped I just need to find a quiet moment and breath.

I’m gunna be your next tattoo After all the things imma do to you.

We stood impatiently in a queue with half an hour to wait until they opened the doors. Amusing ourselves with the game Claire invented “uh huh!” a game that consists of going uh huh at hot guys that pass you by (yeah we know superficial but who the hell cares) its easily played on the busy streets of Edinburgh where many a hot guy passes by, wouldn’t suggest it in small towns don’t think it would be half as fun.

Tonight the 12th of June 2012 at the HMV Picture House Edinburgh we would be seeing TYLER HILTON! A man whose sexy voice was introduced to me first by the Show One Tree Hill and when I made Claire watch the show last year she quickly became a fan of both show and of Tyler Hilton. So when we found out about his UK tour there was no way that we weren’t getting tickets to see him. So on March 12th we ordered our tickets a whole 92 days before the event took place.

 The stage pre show

As we stood in the hall taking pictures of the stage we were so close to the stage with a perfect view. Alex Goot was the first act on stage, someone I admit I had never heard of before, his set was fantastic and by the sounds of it the audience agreed with me.
Alex Goot during his amazing set

In the small break after Alex Goot came of the stage. We heard a girl behind us turn to her friend and say “When is Chris Keller coming on?” we couldn’t help but laugh and it took everything in me and Claire not to turn around and tell her that Chris Keller was fictional (let’s all let her keep believing that he’s real might break her heart otherwise)

 The Incredible Tyler Hilton

Then Tyler Hilton graced the stage just him and his guitar walked up to the mic and said “Hey guys, my name is Tyler, thanks for coming out here tonight” before he started to sing Kicking my heels. It’s when you see him live that you realise that though his recordings are good they do not do him justice he is simply phenomenal live way better that I could have ever imagined. His set was amazing her played Kicking My Heels, Jenny, Ain’t No Fooling Me, You’ll Ask for Me, Prince of Nothing Charming and Loaded Gun is set was short and I could have listened to him all night but I had never been happier to see someone live.

Boyce Avenue where the main event tonight as it was there tour, a band that Claire and I listened to after we had bought tickets for tonight’s gig and very quickly fell in love with their music. There covers of some songs are way better than the originals. When Alejandro, Daniel and Fabian Manzano got on stage it was magical the crowd got wilder (if that was even possible after how they had reacted to Tyler Hilton) and there set was incredible with a nice mixture of their fantastic covers and there amazing original works.

 Alejandro from Boyce Avenue

As the night was ending Claire and I went to the back of the room to queue for the meet and greet as promised by Tyler Hilton and I am so glad we did because after being squished for fifteen minutes the people working at HMV Picture House said that there could only be one more minute of meet and greet and I understand that they have to be shut by a particular time but I would have been so disappointed if we didn’t get to meet Tyler fortunately we did and he is the nicest, because of time we couldn’t get a picture with him and he was incredibly apologetic but he wanted to sign as many fans items as he could.

 Tyler Hilton signing our stuff

It was an amazing night and Claire had caught a Bouce Avenue Guitar pick, we both got our t-shirts and tickets signed by the one and only Tyler Hilton and went home on a total high after having such an incredible night. Everything was fantastic, wish I could do it all again.
