#MusicMonday : Winter Song - Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson

Its music monday christmas song countdown, one more after this, and christmas seems so close, its scary.  I work in retail Christmas music and somehow the bad stuff always gets played. Like there are better renditions of songs why play the worst version.  Then they put the Michael Buble album on and all is well with the world for a little while.

I have yet to get sick of the Christmas tunes this year, I'm actually able to tune it out for the most part, what annoys me is that every other customer mentions how much I must be hating it.  Like I didn't notice it until you pointed it out thanks very much. SMH

This weeks Music Monday is Winter Song - Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson the first time I heard this song it was a cover by Collen Ballinger and Evynne Hollens, which is also beautiful and worth the listen and a watch as they are two different versions and both music videos are beautifully shot.

I absoloutly adore this song, lyrically its absolutely gorgeous. A beautiful blend of the female voices and piano.

Monthly Motivation : Its Ok to feel...

Well November ended with a bang,  it was like for a moment, a fleeting moment, my life might actually be alright and something good was happening. The month was filled with catching up with old friends, spending time with new ones, things at work weren’t great but the people made up for that, things that had been on hold for months were finally going forward. It seemed like life was finally moving. Then it didn’t and it really hurt more than I care to admit.

Here’s the thing with life sometimes, the bad can greatly overshadow the good. It eclipses it, you know that the light is there but it seems so little.  Thats life. And yeah you should be thankful about the good and focus on positivity.

Sometimes you just need a moment, be sad about it. Your allowed to hurt, your allowed to be angry or frustrated and not see the glass as half full. Your allowed to be tired.

I felt all these things, I felt so much anger and I continue to find it hard to let go of all of it, such a short time has passed and the cut its still raw.  I’m hurt and thats the one that I don’t want to resurrect to the surface I don’t want people to see me hurt, and thats silly its a human emotion, It's what I feel, but its  like its too much for people to see that. I’m frustrated I'm in the same old state of life I’ve always been in and I so desperately want my life to be moving forward. And I’m so, so tired of everything being a fight. And yeah I want to give up.

And its ok to feel that.

But know its time to take those feelings and use them, they can’t stay inside and eat you alive because then you lose. And in moments like these you can’t lose. You can’t give up.

Every time you fall down, every time life knocks you down. You need to pick yourself back up and continue.

You need to tell life your not done yet.  That this can’t be the path for you and your off to find another road that will lead you to your goal.

Because whats for you will not go by you.

And yeah you may take a minute cause yeah sometimes this shit that life throws and you gets a bit heavy and you just need a second to breath.

Just a second, because life is happening and you’ve just got to keep on keeping on.

Look around in your life and see the people who are good for you lean on them for a second go out for a drink, have a chat, grab a waffle and a hot chocolate, go to the pub quiz. Know
that in the bad you don't have to be alone that the burden is not yours and yours alone.

Don't let life setbacks to completely eclipse everything brilliant that is going on around you.

October / November Favourites

Water Colour Paints : I just picked up a cheap set from my local supermarket, very good to embellish notes/journals.

Paperchase Notepad : I love that this opens differently. I also love that its not lined I feel more free when I'm trying to be creative when theres nothing to tell me what to do. A blank page is the best. I'm a notepad addict I have millions strewn about my house unfinished.

NYX Colour Corrector : I've recently ventured into the weird wonderful world of colour correction.  I'm loving it so far. Adds a little time to my routine but worth it.

Plum Quad, Kat Von D : I got this as unexpected surprise from my Gran, I've admired a lot of Kat Von D's make-up collection but never bought anything, This little quad is amazing the colours are beautiful and well pigmented and I just love how they look.

Buffalo Offering, Bethany Joy Lenz w/Stillnest : I adore this necklace (the whole range is beautiful) I got the longer length as I like how that sits, and the Rose Gold is just beautiful.

#MusicMonday : You'll Freeze if You Go - Hazel Hayes & Tom Rosenthal

I'm trying very much this year to remain festive, and the same tunes are played constantly on repeat when I'm at work which is why songs like this are very much a welcomed rest... but still on season.

"You'll Freeze If You Go" is a beautiful different kinda take on the sentiment behind "Baby it's cold outside" It's lovers(?) during Winter Time lamenting that its cold outside and therefore its better to be together.

Hayes and Rosenthal talk about troubles but "its Christmas and everything's fine" which is a feeling all to real at this time of year. It's easy to relate to this catchy song, it will get stuck in your head but not in a bad way.

#MusicMonday: Intertwined [EP] - Dodie Clark

It took me a couple of days after the release of this EP to sit down and find time to listen to it. The week had been busy and stressful and when I met my friend on the bus I was told I MUST listen to it cause it was so good. Which is how I found myself at 1am - after going out to dinner with friends -downloading the 5 tracks for a listen.

Intertwined starts slow, soft. Its gentle you can feel the words.  You don’t get the darkness of lyrics such as “Can you drink all my thoughts? Cause I can’t stand them” on first listen.  It takes a turn or two for the words to seep in and meaning to take place.  It changes the song.  Beautiful as though it is.  Its a different kind of love song.

Sickly sweetness for 50 seconds in the form of “I have a hole in my Tooth” changes the tone and pace for “Absolutely smitten” to follow on from. A brilliantly upbeat optimistic first moments of love feel.

“Life Lesson” is short and brilliant. and should be repeated daily until its your life mantra.

Weirdly “Sick of Losing Soulmates” is the only song of the EP that I have previously heard. (I know HOW?!?!) And I’ve always found it beautiful. but the little things that have been added somehow make it more heartbreaking. The echos. The lifts and falls.

I was not ready for “When” it hit me in the feels. After listening to the song twice I mailed my friend (the one from the bus) and simply said "When" has broken me. It did. Its beautiful. It’s a song where the lyrics feel as each word was written with me in mind, and I’m sure so many people will finish listening to it and have related. Its heartbreaking and beautiful (and everything hurts) And because its live you can almost hear the pain in the line “I’m waiting to live, and waiting to love. It’ll be over, and I’ll still be asking when.”

So go and listen to this little beauty. And I’m begging you to actually listen. Don’t background music this whilst you go about other stuff, take 15 minutes and just soak your soul in the music and lyrics.

#MusicMonday: Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen died last week. In amongst everything else that was happening in the world it took a few days for it to hit my timeline and find out.  It was a weird hit. Leonard Cohen had lived a long life, was successful, had people that he loved. I didn't know him, but I had been listening to his music earlier on in the week and it felt weird that he wasn't around anymore.

I can't pinpoint the moment I first heard a Cohen song, my dad listened to him so I ought to have been young, so he was always there. Cohen had a voice you recognised, to often these days its hard to distinguish someones sound. But Cohen's voice was its own.

Hallelujah is one of those songs that it feels like everyone has covered but it never feels truly over done. I know a lot of people would like to see it put to rest.  But what a legacy to leave behind to pen lyrics that resonate with so many people and see artists take it on and feel the words.

So many beautiful covers exist of this song, Jeff Buckley, Kate Voegele, Kate McKinnon, Bob Dylan, Regina Spektor, Peter Hollens and so, so many more but tonight I leave you with the man that started it all Leonard Cohen, may he rest in peace.

#MusicMonday: Waiting For Superman - Daughtry

I've been listening to a lot of songs I used to really love recently. And this was one of them. It's such a good song.

The lyrics are so cleverly constructed. A hopeless and hopefully song.

And it becomes catchy quickly.  So listen and enjoy!

I've had a great halloween, where I was a ninja turtle and got a real scare when my friend turned there garden into a mummy's tomb.

Life's no fun without a good scare....

Makeup Revolution : Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold | Review

When your on a budget its not always an option to splurge, discovering Makeup revolution has been one of the best things to happen to me, I can go on a spree and not end up pennyless.

This palette includes beautiful blushes, for anyone, whither your going subtle or what strong pigment its there. There are also gorgeous bronzers and a highlight highbred.

Its gorgeous and there is genuinely a sometime for everyone in these eight shades. and at £8 (ish) does it matter if your not a fan of every shade.

I haven't really taken the time to play with all the shades properly so I do play favourites with this palette but its brilliant and excellent value for money.

So wither your a dab hand with the make-up brush or a newbie looking for something to start with. You should give this a try.

Makeup Revolution : Golden Sugar | Review

When the price tag for a palette is £6 it’s easy to be wary about quality but that need not be the case with Makeup Revolutions Blush Palette. 8 shades and a big mirror, the packaging is clean/no fuss and the product is amazing.

The palette is highly pigmented and though described as a blush palette contains highlighter and bronzer.

Each shade is gorgeous. The highlighter is glowy. The two bronzers in the palette can be used for a subtle contour. And the Blush shades are diverse and can be used for however rose or subtle hint of colour you want.

And for the price who can complain.

#MusicMonday: Before October's Go - Cimorelli

Want a heartbreak song, here's a good 'un.

My life doesn't currently call for a break-up song, but I think we all have a soft spot for them, that we always take a moment to listen, or sing along in the car to them.

This is a beautiful song, with a really aesthetically pleasing music video to suit.

Monthly Motivation: Don't Beat Yourself Up!

My monthly motivations tend to come from a specific lesson I thought I had learned in a month. One that prominently stuck out. Which makes this hard advice to dole out considering I spent most of September beating myself up over mistakes I had made. As though they made me less of a person.

Three major things happened in September that I really struggled with the aftermath of. It wasn't my actions that changed me but how I treated myself in the days and weeks after.

What was worse that all three actions happened quite early in the month and close together. I had barely dealt with one before I had to deal with the next and that subsequently made it all a lot harder to process.

I fucked up and I wasn't used to fucking up on such a monumental scale and to be honest I wasn't equipped to cope with what it felt like.

I was really hard on myself it stopped me enjoying little moments in life. I was to busy punishing myself and as a result people noticed. I had a chat with a few of them which resulted in the same end to the conversation. That a mistake is only bad if you don't learn from it.

If I were to do it again then it would be bad, I wouldn't have learned. I had to stop beating myself up over these instances, everything was fixable and I was fine. And truthfully I would like to say it was that easy and I had a more c'est la vie look on what happened. But I still struggle. Not to the extent that I was but its an ongoing battle.

But I have realised that talking to people helps lighten the burden and get a different perspective on the situation does help a lot.  And to not be as quick to judge yourself. Your doing your best don't be so hard on yourself. Even if it feels like the end of the world its defiantly not.

#MusicMonday: Never Come Back Again - Austin Plaine

I love when a song isn't just a song (ya know, easy to sing along to, enjoyable to hear) but speaks to you lyrically. Like someone wrote the song especially for/about you.

This was the case with Austin Plaine's Never Come Back Again, and I know for most people with a severe case of Wanderlust will have the same feeling when they hear the lyrics, that is is them.

The want to experience the different paths life has to offer and to "never come back again" is one that will resonate in a lot of folk.

And this song is just plain beautiful so I suggest you all go give it a listen.

#MusicMonday Let Me Fall - Bethany Joy Lenz

October has been around for a little over a week and I haven't really had time to sit down and dedicate any time to the blog, so I really meant to make this last weeks #MusicMonday but ran out of time. Something I run out of all to easily these days.

Bethany Joy Lenz has never realised a studio version of Let Me Fall, it was aired in an episode of One Tree Hill way back in the day and the only audio copies you will be able to find have characters voices over it or is broken up as someone has obviously tried to remove the character audio.

Idina Menzel covered the song as a bonus tack on a special edition release of her 2008 album "I Stand" a more pop(pier) version of the song, but holds it own all the same.

The Song always pops into my mind this time of year because of the opening lyrics "It's October again the leaves are coming down, one more years come and gone and nothings changed at all" and each year this song seems to resonate at some level.

So I took to a favourite little Autumnal spot and caught some footage and then covered the song myself this year. I'm not a good singer by any means, but I love the song.

#MonthlyMotivation : Making Time!

I'm the first to admit that i can be the world worst for making time, whither it be for a friend or a task I can easily find an excuse as why not to do something not enough time, to tired, whats the point ect. But what I am really excusing myself from is the chance to have fun, be productive, make memories.

In August I set out to start saying yes to more things (and not just more shifts) things that I knew before I would say no to (or the dreaded maybe and drag it out a few days before the no) And learned quickly that the only person standing in my way of having a good time was myself (and a few shifts).

So make time for your friends, go out with your friends after work, revel in £1 vodkas and surround yourself in laughter even if its just for an hour or two. That girls day you've been meaning to have, have it! even if its Wednesday if it works it works.  Keep meaning to get in touch with an old friend shoot them a text, meet up if you can, you'll remember why you were friends after ten minutes.

Make time for your family, have coffee with your gran, dinner with your dad, have long chats and a drink with your Mum, you will feel better once you have.

Make time for all the things you have been putting off, eyebrow waxes, filing paperwork, gym classes.

Make time for yourself, draw a bath and prop your laptop up a bubble bath and an episode of your favourite show and suddenly the whole world will feel right!

did i say make time enough... just live your best life x

#MusicMonday: Anyway - Kerrigan & Lowdermilk

Music Monday's choice this week is a song that I have been listening to the last few months, I stumbled upon it whilst watching youtube videos and then proceeded to download some of albums from the musical geniuses  that are Kerrigan & Lowdermilk, they have written what seem to be my favourite songs from the last few month.

Anyway is a beautifully composed, skilfully written song. The emotion behind each word is real and you can feel it, especially in renditions sung by Lauren Samuels, Emma Hunton and Grace Bydalek.

Its so cleverly written a story that you feel you are in the journey of. With so many twists, and reality thrown in.

Currently my go-to shower song, trust me you will want to sing along as well.

Modern Renaissance - Anastasia Beverly Hills : This palette is so gorgeous. A very autumnal collection of colours, that you could wear any time of year but will defiantly see me through the next couple of months.

Erin Condren Journal : This cute little notebook in the Ikat design helps me stay on top of my creativity and the more serious notes in life.

Gwen Stefani Eye Shadow Palette - Urban Decay : Gorgeous and high pigmented colours. I can't wait to work some of the shades into looks.

Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil - Benefit : Benefit have released so many new eyebrow products and this is by far my favourite of the ones I've tried.

Verbena Eau de Toilette - L'Occitane : This scent will remind you of summer always. Check out my blog where I talk all about it.

#MusicMonday Brand New - Ben Rector

This last week has had some sucky moments but for the most part it was a good week I tried new things, and worked a little on my happiness. When this song came on I actually started dancing to it. It was just such a good beat and an instant mood booster.

So to make you smile this week's music monday is Brand New by Ben Rector.

Drugstore Make-Up : Rimmel, Kate Moss, Sculpting Palette.

I've been trying to sort my make-up recently and have been sorting out a smaller handier to-go style make-up bag. May do a post on it at some point but was looking for some smaller items that could easily fit in and were still useful.

When I saw Rimmel's Coral Bliss Sculpting Palette, it looked like the perfect product, reasonably priced at £6.99 its perfect for a gal on a budget, a make-up newbie, or something to just throw into your collection.

The trio comes nicely packaged, one of my biggest pet peeves about make-up is unnecessary packaging (i.e when the tub, container is significantly bigger than the amount of product) this however is nicely put together, theres a thin line of plastic separating the different products another feature I greatly appreciate as I really dislike when they run together in products.

The highlighter is a nice cool tone, its a very subtle highlight though. So if your looking for something intense this may be build able but probably won't give the desired effect. For everyday use and a more natural look the colour is perfect.

The blush is a lovely coral, not to intense, as someone who's not into the bright blush look this is a perfect colour, just a hit of colour with a touch of shimmer.

The Bronzer, though nice is not really good for contour, the shimmer means that it just wasn't really designed for that, for contour your looking at more matte shades.  But adding definition to the cheek bones and even jaw line it works fine. But all over contour probably best to look elsewhere.

The product is really good value for money and it has made a great addition to my make-up collection. I would seriously recommend it to anyone looking for a simple palette, on a budget or starting out.

Enjoy x

Summer Scent : Verbena - L'Occitane

If there is one thing about Scotland you can be sure of, its gonna rain. And this summer has seemed to pass by with as little sun as possible, but there's been more than enough, rainy days.

When weather is as bleak as can be there needs to be a few items you can throw in your handbag to spouse up your day.

L'Occitane's Verbena lemony fresh scent is the best way to incorporate Summer into your day. Whither the sun is actually shinning or not.

This smell is by far one of my favourites, its long lasting, and incredibly fresh.

L'Occitane do a whole Verbena range, so have a browse, and choose how to incorporate this scent into your life, I love the Eau de toilette and the Hand Cream and after a little browse I am incredibly tempted to purchase the candle.

 Enjoy x

Monthly Motivation : Find a Moment

I've been to exhausted to write this occasionally I find pure moments of madness where I get a rush of energy and become really productive.

But for the most part I find myself sucked into the black hole that is YouTube and Netflix until I fall asleep.

Shift work can take its toll there are rarely two days the same I go from lates to earlier at the drop of a hat. Days could be 4 hours to 12 hours long and I've only had one day of a week since June.

All this can be taxing on your body in those few moments that you actually get for yourself. Can become to easily wasted.  or thrown onto housework, or trying to keep your social life somewhat intact.

But sometimes you have to be selfish and take a moment to focus on yourself. Run a bath, put on a face mask, get a book and relax. Hell go to the gym if thats what you need.

Find a moment. One thats all for you. Because otherwise you will drive yourself crazy.

Now for August...

#MusicMonday: Cheap Thrills - Sia

You won't believe how long I've been singing the wrong lyrics to this, not even just wrong lyrics I don't think I thought some parts were words. The song makes a whole lot more sense when you actually know they lyrics. and your not shouting "I love Jake Grills", whoever that is.

One of my fave songs and sure fired way to get me on the dance floor... cause thats a thing you want to see.

... I LOVE CHEAP THRILLS... nailed it.

#MusicMonday : Burning Out - Lacey

I really have got out the knack of uploading and in an effort to get back into the habit, here's a #MusicMonday.

Burning Out is from Lacey's 2013 EP Outlaws. It is such an amazing song, incredibly related lyrics. An everyday anthem. Its a great song to sing along to and move along to the beat as it slows down towards the end it just encourages you to sing along, before speeding back up again and getting back into the rhythm.

"We all fall down, We all do Nothing"

This is really the perfect song for any 20-somthing struggling with their next step in life. The lyrics will really speak to you.

Monthly Motivation : Getting Older

I turned 21 on June 8th, I was in New York and it was a literal dream come true. Its exactly how I wanted to turn 21, in the city that never sleeps on the top of the Empire State Building. I want to live it all again.

The weird thing about getting older is this weird feeling of nothing changing, but expecting everything to be different. I came back from my holiday to the same job, and fell into the same old routine. I was totally void of energy and motivation.

Life resumes and I was slumped

I think about how when I was younger I had this naivety about ages, and 21 seemed so old. Like when you were 21 you’d have your shit together. That I would have my own flat and a proper job.

What the fuck is a proper job. I have a job and I earn money. And though its not forever it does for now.

I think the worst thing you can do in your twenties is believe that you should have your shit together. It will destroy you.

Just live and let life take you where you need to be.

Find your energy, fight the negativity that takes you away from the present.

You are exactly where you need to be right now

My birthday week...

#MusicMonday: Kids in the Street - The All American Rejects

It's been 4 years since I've seen the All American Rejects Live, I remember hearing this song and it really resonating with me the. And it still does now.  It was the first time I had ever heard in when we went to the concert and I immediately just felt that it was a great song, catchy, meaningful.

#MusicMonday: My Anthem - Christina Grimmie

Christina Grimmie tragically lost her life on June 11th at only 22 years old, on June 10th whilst signing autographs for fans after a concert in Orlando the singer/youtuber was shot 3 times and rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

It's absolutely tragic for someones life to end so suddenly, and hopefully between this and the attack at Pulse when the American Government re-open up the talk on Gun Control something is done!

Christina Grimmie should still be able to tour and record albums and bring her music into the world. Her family should not be having to put her to rest. The Family's of the 50 shot dead in an Orlando Gay Club should not have to put there loved one to rest.  Unfortunately the reality is all to tragic and something needs to be done.

This weeks Music Monday is dedicated to all. It's Christina Grimmie "My Anthem"

Monthly Motivation: Looking Back and Moving On

I recently realised that this is the first May in five years where I haven't had exams or graded unit. And if I had remembered that at the beginning of the month that may have felt more freeing. Thinking about it now, I realise what bad connotations I have of the month, previously they have just been stressful and left me a wreck.

This year though May was a place for old things to start a new. I have really tried. I’ve worked hard on old friendships, of people who I would like back in my life properly. And its been good. It's been really good

I’m also trying to work on things that I enjoy more, I’m filming my week so that I can spend some proper time editing. I missed editing. And this time last year I was probably saying the opposite because I was working towards a dead line.

Its fun to look back at the week, see what I’ve filmed, see how I can improve my filming and editing techniques and then just release it out there.

And though I still need to do more things for me, instead of just letting myself procrastinate, thats a problem to move forward with.

This May will be looked back on positively, there were moments where I struggled but to be honest this month has had so many highs, and as we move into June its already shaping up to be a good month (though June is historically a good month for me)

Looking back has it's uses as we move on, it helps us grow, heal, change. Getting stuck in the past leaves us bitter, hurt, and unready to move on. And as life only moves forward you have to be ready to keep on keeping on.

#MusicMonday: The Long Ride Home - Patty Griffin

This song is being chosen out of the fact I simple can't get out of my head, if I'm not humming it, I'm actually singing it out, even if its just a mumbly sing. This song is all thats in my head and it wants out.

I'm not even a little mad about how much I find myself singing to it, It's an actual masterpiece, a classic. A song that will truly stand the test of time. It will always be good.

Patty Griffin's The Long Ride Home though deals with a sad subject, its oddly uplifting and entirely satisfying. Like your ears need to hear it.

And though I might wear it to death. I do truly love it.

So go and enjoy... on the long ride home.

One of my favourite covers of the song, by some of my fave artists who have been previously featured on #MusicMonday
