#MusicMonday: Intertwined [EP] - Dodie Clark

It took me a couple of days after the release of this EP to sit down and find time to listen to it. The week had been busy and stressful and when I met my friend on the bus I was told I MUST listen to it cause it was so good. Which is how I found myself at 1am - after going out to dinner with friends -downloading the 5 tracks for a listen.

Intertwined starts slow, soft. Its gentle you can feel the words.  You don’t get the darkness of lyrics such as “Can you drink all my thoughts? Cause I can’t stand them” on first listen.  It takes a turn or two for the words to seep in and meaning to take place.  It changes the song.  Beautiful as though it is.  Its a different kind of love song.

Sickly sweetness for 50 seconds in the form of “I have a hole in my Tooth” changes the tone and pace for “Absolutely smitten” to follow on from. A brilliantly upbeat optimistic first moments of love feel.

“Life Lesson” is short and brilliant. and should be repeated daily until its your life mantra.

Weirdly “Sick of Losing Soulmates” is the only song of the EP that I have previously heard. (I know HOW?!?!) And I’ve always found it beautiful. but the little things that have been added somehow make it more heartbreaking. The echos. The lifts and falls.

I was not ready for “When” it hit me in the feels. After listening to the song twice I mailed my friend (the one from the bus) and simply said "When" has broken me. It did. Its beautiful. It’s a song where the lyrics feel as each word was written with me in mind, and I’m sure so many people will finish listening to it and have related. Its heartbreaking and beautiful (and everything hurts) And because its live you can almost hear the pain in the line “I’m waiting to live, and waiting to love. It’ll be over, and I’ll still be asking when.”

So go and listen to this little beauty. And I’m begging you to actually listen. Don’t background music this whilst you go about other stuff, take 15 minutes and just soak your soul in the music and lyrics.
